Pounding Party

As a fun way to welcome our new “First Family” we’re going to hold a “Pounding Party” on Friday, June 16th, at noon in the parsonage. This will give you an opportunity to see the re-vamped flooring and paint job our Trustees (and family) have been working on so diligently in preparation for the Sanderson’s move on June 19th. There will be light finger food snacks, and it really is a come-and-go party, so if you can’t make it at noon, come on whenever. We should be able to put your gifts in place and be finished around 2-2:30.

A pounding party is where you literally bring “a pound” of something: a pound of flour, a pound of paper towels, a pound of canned green beans, etc. We know items will not specifically weigh “1 pound” but it’s a sweet way to stock up for a new family without being a financial burden on the giver (plus, we don’t need to know their colors or tastes like for newly-weds). You don’t even have to wrap your gift!

To prevent 25 rolls of toilet paper and only 1 box of tea bags, we’re going to

divide up the gifting choices.

  • If your LAST name begins with A through F, you’re to bring things to stock the kitchen. {Dish soap, sponges, cleaning products, plastic storage containers, maybe even some disposable plates and items for meals for their first couple of unpacked-nights in the house, etc.}

  • If your LAST name begins with G through L, you get to stock the bathrooms.          There are 3.

  • If your LAST name begins with M through S, you are in charge of the pantry. {Non-perishable food items, trash bags, ziplock baggies, etc.}

  • If your LAST name begins with a T through Z, you have “Other.” This could be laundry soap, baking soda, some freezer foods for future meals, candles, a houseplant, a flashlight, etc.

Of course, you are not limited to the categories. If some of you want to go in together to buy a water hose or restaurant gift cards, that’s perfectly fine. We just wanted to extend our MUMC hand of welcome to the Sandersons: Brian, Faith and Abbey their daughter, plus 3 dogs.

His first Sunday in the pulpit is July 2nd. So, hope to see you at the Pounding Party
