A Special Message ...
Church family it is with mixed emotions that I submit these links for your further study. As you know for nearly four decades the UM church has fought over the topic of human sexuality, especially as it pertains to 'Full inclusion' (right to marry anyone and ordained as-is: LGBTQI). I attempted to schedule our District Superintendent to speak on the church separation protocol but after his announcement (leaving as our DS, unfortunately) he is unable to speak at churches on the topic. Now there will be a future meeting that we are invited to attend with the bishop's assistant Alex Shanks, (We will update you). I have included a few examples from various reports that will help you put the current puzzle together. "Current" because there have been several changes and we are awaiting votes at General conference 2020 (May 5-15, 2020, at the Minneapolis Convention Center in Minneapolis, Minn.).
Middleburg UMC is a great Church! Any Pastor, in my opinion, would be blessed to serve you all (as I feel). I know there are differing opinions within our congregation. Let us be in prayer for our Church, all over the world and down the street. We will continue our ministries and mission: 'To Seek the Un Churched and Make Mature Disciples of Jesus Christ.' I know you have a part in this and it matters to you that you are in God's will. May God richly bless each 'camp' (remember Sun. 2/23 sermon) that forms and may we all align ourselves with Jesus, the author, and perfecter of our Faith.
More information is forthcoming and once we've received it we will have a local church meeting/(s) and members are invited.
His Shalom,
Pastor Brian Sanderson
