"The Methodists must take heed to their doctrine, their experience, their practice, and their discipline. If they attend to their doctrines only, they will make the people antinomians; if to the experimental part of religion only, they will make them enthusiasts; if to the practical part only, they will make them Pharisees; and if they do not attend to their discipline, they will be like persons who bestow much pains in cultivating their garden, and put no fence round it, to save it from the wild boar of the forest."
--John Wesley

A Rich Heritage

Middleburg United Methodist Church is one of the oldest Methodist Churches in continuous use in Florida. As early as 1821, the first Methodist missionary to St. Augustine established a circuit and preached in the Middleburg area.

Historic Chapel

Our church was first organized in 1823, the Black Creek Methodist Episcopal Church. Members met in their homes and later in a small log schoolhouse behind the site where our historical chapel now stands. In 1847, John Scheufler deeded 2 acres to the church trustees "for and in consideration of my desire to have the gospel preached among men." It is believed the historic chapel was completed the same year.

Fellowship Sanctuary

The Fellowship Sanctuary was built in the early 1980's, to serve both as a place of worship and for fellowship gatherings of the church. This building also houses the office of our Pastor, Director of Family Ministries and office staff.

Family Life Center

From our 19th century roots, Middleburg United Methodist Church has entered the 21st century with a new Family Life Center. The facility includes a fellowship hall, which is also a regulation-sized basketball court, plus classrooms, nursery, kitchen, stage, offices and music room. Outside is a wonderful new playground for our youngest  members.

Lighthouse Cristian School

In 2009 and 2010, the church began talks with Lighthouse Christian School to set up a new campus in the Family Life Center, to better serve the community of Middleburg, and providing opportunities for Christian Education for local students, grades 1-12.
